Do not waste pain ...
It’s not cliche, it’s possible for our pain to become our greatest power and asset.
Wassup friend. This topic of not wasting our pain just won’t go out of my head. So allow me to share with you a very easily accessible means of harnessing your pain even before it gets to the “purpose” point:
Do not waste anything you've gone through... It doesn't have to be wasted ... Then you won't have to be powerless against what you've been through... Fight to see what you've gone through as a source for good even if your experience with it wasn't good.
We become powerless against things/ circumstances and experiences when we cannot use them for anything... But say you decided to pray for everyone that has gone through the same things as you have ... Then you get to get to give back, immediately.
We don't have to wait for "events" to "give back" or "serve" ... Indeed tangible spaces of giving back are important... But say for example you've lost touch with many of the spaces you'd have "given back"?... Do you get to only be miserable with unspent energy clogging your soul? My answer is , no.
There is a way to get back power that may not require human checks and balances. Eg, to volunteer at the UN, it's a whole process. However, to pray for someone, it's all free, and you don't even need their permission to do that.
You think your life has been full of misery? Or like it has all been one big mistake till now? Good. Use your life as the template for what to pray for in others.
Say a struggle like substance abuse disorder had been a problem in your life, and may be you fear you haven't mastered your impulses yet ... Try sending out prayers for people going through something similar. Our problems aren't that unique. We only need step out of our self obsession to realize just how similar our hurts are. Struggling with self sabotage (issues with self regulation?) ? Trust you me, 4/5 of the world around you is struggling with the same things.
We see the 5% of the people that seem to have mastered themselves and assume that's how the world is, and that we are the only ones with a problem. Alas though, the opposite is true. That the 5% is the outliers, and 95% is on your "normal" side.
It's only that we have an inherent negativity bias that makes us only see what we are not, and not what we are... We rarely go looking for people "struggling" ... We only look for evidence that we are messed up, and so we keep finding it... So that even our own social media algorithms bring us the evidence that we are messed up by bringing stories of everything we feel we aren't at the moment.
But I have some good news to share: there is a free way to take back power that may not even require mentorship or human affirmation. Trying serving others through prayers. It'll transform how you feel about yourself, and the results are literally immediate. First, your feelings get to feel more in control. Secondly, you aren't the messed up person but an observer not willing to let others suffer the same way. Thirdly, it has eternal value because prayers edify our souls, benefit others, and please God ... And as a bonus, the whole time it's fortifying your relationship with God.
Let the pain you've been through become your "work book" for how to serve the world around you. Prayer works, and you don't need to take my word for it. Try it, even for thirty minutes in your lowest moments, then you'll come tell us if I lied or told the truth.
Do not waste your pain.
